Power is so fundamental in our lives it seems unimaginable that less than 110 years ago we were still relying on gas fueled lamps once the sun went down. There is not one device we use in our day-to-day activities which does not require electricity to work, yet it’s something most people don’t consciously acknowledge as an entity in it’s own right. Power generation of all kinds, from coal-fired to gas-powered and even solar and wind power has a huge related infrastructure which weaves it’s way through our landscape and has a significant footprint. Over the past five years I have visited several decommissioned power stations and sought out related infrastructure. These are segments of a larger body of ongoing work.
